For those of you who know me well (or even not so well) know that 3,000 words aren't nearly enough to update you on all the excitement --and challenges-- we are working through at Plantation right now. Therefore, I will limit my new editorial to something a little more specific, like the importance of taking your Christmas lights down before May 1st.
That is correct, you will find me this weekend taking our Christmas lights down from our front yard bushes and crepe myrtles, as well as relocating our life-sized stuffed Santa. Yes, Santa Claus, St. Nick, Chris Cringle who used to sit on his once mighty throne on our front porch chair is now slumped to one side resembling a shade of his former self (literally, he is slightly pink) and looking like he celebrated a little too much lately. My children were a touch confused until my wife explained that Santa is getting ready for a big change...with a simple bonnet, some fake teeth and pink ribbon to match his pink suit and voila! He became the Easter Bunny, with a beard.
For the record, I would like to point out that from the sidewalk, the casual observer would not recognize that our Christmas lights are still in place or passed out Santa/Easter Bunny is on our porch. Fortunately the wires are green, the bulbs are tiny, and our porch is obscured by railing. While it is tempting to leave everything in place as permanent 'lawn art', I think I am setting a better example for my children by going ahead and dragging out the 12 foot ladder and risking my life unwinding $3.99 lights.
My wife wants to know if anyone knows what the Great Pumpkin looks like? Does he have a beard?
